Masaccio Italian Craft Espresso - Classic Coffee Pods

Tommaso di Ser Giovanni di Mone Cassai—better known as Masaccio—was a "founding father" of Renaissance painting. In a career that lasted less than a decade, he revolutionized art by bringing 3D mathematical perspective to a 2D world.

Inspired by this leap into depth and realism, our Masaccio Espresso is a dark roast designed for those who seek a "three-dimensional" flavor profile: bold, structured, and incredibly smooth.

This isn't just a standard dark roast; it’s a masterclass in balance. Like Masaccio’s frescoes, this blend has weight and gravity, offering a rich, spicy complexity that lingers long after the first sip.

While delicious as a shot, the Masaccio blend truly shines in a flat white or cortado, where the milk bolsters the richness of the cardamom and cocoa.

  • Notes of Brown Butter, Cardamom, Fudge Brownie
  • Dark roast with a Bold body
  • Intensità 8

Excellent dark Italian blend.

"Excellent dark Italian blend. It has the depth of flavor without the burnt-rubber taste that some very dark roast have. I like this best of the Italian Craft blends that I have tried. Will definitely keep this on hand for the times that I want a dark roast!"

Thomas W. (5/5)

Solid

"As far as the espresso offerings, this is one of the better ones. It has a fairly bold flavor without being too intense or bitter. I think it is better than the Italian roast espresso and the other ones I've tried."

Roast Review (with accidental karate)

"This coffee calls itself Masaccio, which is very classy and Renaissance, but every time I brewed it my brain insisted it was somehow related to Ralf Machio. You know, that guy. The Karate Kid. The crane kick. The eternal high-schooler with a headband and questionable life advice. The roast itself? Bold, dark, and confident—nothing like Ralf Machio’s permanently anxious facial expression. Rich chocolatey depth, a little smoky swagger, and a finish so smooth it could probably sweep the leg without even trying. Zero bitterness, unless you count my lingering resentment toward 1980s underdog narratives. It claims “Italian craft,” and honestly, it delivers: intense, dramatic, and slightly judgmental if you don’t drink it black. This coffee doesn’t train you slowly like Mr. Miyagi—it throws you straight into the tournament with a full-bodied punch and says, “Wax on? No. Wake up. ” In summary: excellent coffee, powerful roast, absolutely no confirmed connection to Ralf Machio—though if he were a coffee, he’d still be weaker, thinner, and somehow riding on nostalgia alone. This cup? This cup wins. 🥋☕"

Good espresso

"The FRC Masacco is REALLY a nice espresso blend. The whole series of Italian blends are terrific. The flavors remind me of the Mediterranium coffee house that I used to frequent, in Berkeley, CA. All the subtle flavor notes in this coffee make it a cut above, in my book. Well done 👍 and the price is just unbeatable."
